The future Holzweg-Passage in Monheim am Rhein near Düsseldorf is taking shape and will probably be able to celebrate its official reopening at the end of this year.

The Baumberger Einkaufszentrum GmbH, a subsidiary of the city of Monheim am Rhein, commissioned kplus konzept with the modernization concept: The assignment was to transform the aging shopping arcade in the Baumberg district of Monheim into an inviting "marketplace", a local supply center with a high quality of stay. The facade design of the row of stores in a consistent look is part of the scope of services, so that it is perceived as a unit rather than a mere stringing together of individual business units. The new name - previously it ran under Baumberger Einkaufszentrum - and a uniform guidance and signage system were also developed by kplus konzept. The concept is currently being implemented with the Düsseldorf-based architects Statwald.
The optically and functionally aging row of stores is located on the first floor below a multi-storey residential development in a typical 1970s design - predestined as a local supply center, with its open-air character, especially in Corona times.

In addition to the city, there are another 217 (!) owners in the numerous adjacent residential units, and a two-thirds majority was required for the conversion. But through intensive and goal-oriented public relations and information work by the city of Monheim am Rhein in the run-up, the draft was "waved through" by all those present at the owners' meeting in the community center without any dissenting votes or abstentions. New retailers have also already been won over, such as the 'Baumberger Früchtehof', 'Ballon Baumberg & mehr' or the 'Monheimer Gewürzmanufaktur'.
The new name "Holzweg Passage" is the program of the redesign: The store facades are given modern edgings with frame and lamella elements in wood look. The awnings are renewed in a warm color concept, and lighting and outdoor furniture are optimized to match.
We at kplus konzept particularly like the new signage system: A special icon was developed for each store, which marks the stores on sympathetic round nose signs - just like in the past when the baker had the pretzel and the innkeeper the wine glass as a symbol on their outdoor signs, which showed every thirsty person the way without big words - but translated into today's world.
